You cannot seem to find a way to save some money to redecorate your home completely. You keep putting the work off, but the longer you wait, the more impatient you get. If there is no chance for you to set aside enough to make a more radical change, why not start with baby steps and only paint the walls? But as even this endeavor can be quite expensive, here are a couple of tips for you on how to change the colors of your walls without having to use up all of your savings.
The Importance of Good Base
Before you even begin with the painting job, you need to make sure that the wall you are about to work on is ready. If it is scratched or dented, there is no point in renovating, as the final result will not look good. That is why the first step is to even out the surface you are about to work on, and only then move on to the actual work.
DIY Mixture
If you are in a real financial problem, then making your own colors is just what you have to do. This will require you to devote more time to this project, but in the end you will realize that not only have you saved a lot, but you have also ended up with quite unique shades that no one else has in their home. The cheapest is always white, so get a lot of it, and add other shades from tester bottles that are most commonly free. Just do not forget to take into consideration the amount of the wall you wish to paint over, as many people do not make enough of this unique mixture, and can never make the same one again, only to end up with ugly patches on their walls.
Bulk Buying
It is a well-known fact that whatever you are buying, getting bigger packages will cost less then buying smaller ones of the same product. The same goes for the paint, so especially if you want to re-do most of your home, getting a few-gallon buckets will definitely pay off. However, getting only the cheap ones might not be such a good idea, as they do not always cover as good, and the paint job will not last as longer as if when you would invest in a higher-quality color.
DIY Painting
Even if you have never painted a wall yourself, a financial crisis is just the right time to learn a new craft and make this another one of your hobbies. However, be careful not to mess it up, as it is not as easy as it looks. Be gentle, do not squeeze the paint out of the roller as you will only make a mess, on the wall and around it, go slow, and try to make it even.
Going Green
There are many people who buy gallons and gallons of paint, but do not use all of it, so they decide to give it away to local recycling center. As paints have long shelf life, you do not need to worry about the expiration date on these used colors, as they are usable just as the new ones you get at a local store.
Use the Internet
Getting paint in the nearest hardware store might not always be the best option, as somewhere else the one that you need could be on sale. The good thing is that there are many shops which have their own websites where you can both see what they have to offer and at what price. If you find something in your price range you can buy paint at Paint Online and save a couple of bucks without even having to move an inch.
Careful with the Brushes
Sometimes it will take you a couple of days to finish the job, as before putting another layer of paint, you need to wait for the first one to dry. In the meantime, it is good to cover the rollers and brushes that you used with plastic grocery sack, so that you would not have to clean them, but still keep them from drying out.
Do not let empty wallet stop you from changing a few things around your house. You might not be able to do everything you intended to in the first place, but know that different color on the walls can make a huge difference to your home, without forcing you to spend what you actually do not have.
