Decorating the living room is probably one of the tedious home projects you’ll ever do. After all, it is where you welcome all your guests and spends time with the entire family – so, it has to have the perfect ambiance and design to it.
There are several factors that you need to consider when decorating your living room. Not only do you need to find the right furniture that will blend well with the room’s theme, but you will also need to get other decorative elements for a complete furnish.
It is easy to find inspiration on how to beautify any room in your home. The problem is with the execution. Sometimes, you just can’t turn imagination into a reality. Fortunately, there are few tricks on how you can effectively decorate the living room to make it more welcoming.
So, let’s get creative!
Give it a new coat of paint
There is no better way to add some life in the living room than by painting it with a colourful interior paint. It may seem like it would be a big project, but it is definitely going to be all worth it.
Add a pop of colour by painting the walls with neutral or bright colours. Depending on the living room’s theme, see to it that you paint it with the right colour.
You should know which type of colour would work well in your living room. Either a warm colour (red, orange, or yellow) or a cool colour (blue or green), the choice is yours.

And you do not even need to paint all the walls in the living room. You can simply paint an accent wall with say orange and then keep the old paint (light blue perhaps) on the other sides. This way, you can both improve the appearance of the living space while saving money on paint too.
Put some accents all over the room
When we say floor accents, we meant decorative or accessories such as a carpet or a rug. Such floor elements can add more comfort and warmth in the living room. If you do put some carpets though make sure that they are carpet steam clean every now and then.
Pick out a rug that would match the sofas and / or coffee table. If you don’t have a coffee table yet, then you should get one as well. The coffee table is basically the centerpiece in the living room. So, it has to be the right one.
Add a few home accessories like some flowers in a vase, an art painting, some books or magazines, and even a home plant. All of which will add more life in the living room.

It is important to know how to accessorize the living space. The right amount of decorative is crucial in making the room beautiful and tidy. Don’t overdo things. Meaning, too many accessories are really too much. It will just make the room overwhelming and seem a bit small.
Add in some colourful throw pillows too. Pick out pillow coverings with texture designs in them. And if you have more space in the living room, you may also add an accent chair that can serve as a reading nook.
In the entryway, you can incorporate some paintings or mirrors. Add in a few more accessories like basket bins and vases to really emphasize your personality.
Mix things up!
Sometimes, being spontaneous works best. You don’t have to worry about matching things in the living room. If you have a modern themed living room, don’t hesitate to add some vintage elements in it.
Infuse some reclaimed and refurbished old wooden boxes and turn them into a coffee table or a bookshelf. It’s okay to be creative as long as you know how to properly incorporate the different elements together.
Instead of the common garden croton as a house plant, why not put a cactus type plant. Or instead of the digital telephone, why not set up an antique rotary telephone? There are so many things you can do with the living room, and it will still look great. The only limit is your imagination.
