Every year brings fresh inspiration for interior designers. New products, new colors, and new methods open the door to new possibilities that homemakers can use to make their living space even more beautiful. 2020 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for design lovers everywhere, with some new trends that you’ll love!
To help get your creative juices flowing and give you some great points of inspiration, here are five fantastic design trends to jumpstart your decorating projects in 2020!
Before we get into our 5 tips, a word on decluttering. Some styles of the past have left homes with a closed in, cluttered feeling. One of the main trends going into 2020 is simplicity and clean lines. If you have remnants of past styles, take some time to clear out your space. Once you have removed the clutter, call in a professional cleaning service like Tidy TN to do a deep clean of your space and set the stage for a sizzling new design.
Alright, let’s get to it!
1. Middle-Eastern Patterns
What’s not to love about these gorgeous diamond-based patterns? Think about it:
- They’re beautiful
- They’re exotic
- They’re mysterious
- They’re artistic
- They’re luxurious
Middle-eastern patterns are perfect for injecting the fresh energy you need to make your home even more beautiful. In particular, the rich colors and dazzling shapes you find in area rugs and pillows with Middle-Eastern patterns can really elevate your design. Combining these exotic patterns with lush materials like cotton, suede, or velvet will create the perfect comfort space for you to rest your feet on!
2. Cozy Fabrics
Speaking of fabrics, don’t ever forget that colors and patterns aren’t all you need to make a home look fantastic. The textures you use are just as important. Different fabrics have different characteristics, and in 2020, the softest fabrics are the ones that are winning our hearts!
Which Fabrics are In Style?
The cozier, the better. Suede and velvet are two of my personal favorites. They’re both incredibly soft, pretty darn durable, and repel stains fairly well. You could also go for cotton but be careful. It stains easily, gets frayed easily, and won’t last as long. As far as textures go, shag carpets, rugs, and cushions are also making a big comeback. If you love looking completely hip and trendy, you can’t go wrong with shag!
3. Wallpaper
Remember when wallpaper was all the rage? Yeah, me neither. The last time wallpaper was really a thing was back in the 1980s. In recent years though, wallpaper has come back in a big way, and it’s only going to get bigger in 2020!
What’s the Deal with Wallpaper?
Because seriously, who has time to paint? Between work, school, dating, raising children, you name it, we’ve got so much going on in our lives that finding the time to paint is just out of the question. Plus, paint is super expensive if you want to get the best.
Wallpaper makes it easy! It doesn’t take long to apply, it’s super easy to do, and you know you’ll get the same great look on every wall. Plus, wallpaper comes in a variety of great designs. Whether you love floral patterns, geometric shapes, stripes, polka dots, or whatever, there’s a wallpaper option that’s right for you.
4. Floral Designs
‘Going Green’ is a big trend in both lifestyles and home decor right now. People want their homes to reflect their devotion to devotion to protecting the environment. It’s a pretty awesome development that looks fantastic from a design standpoint!
As a result, floral designs are incredibly hot at the moment. In everything from wallpaper to cushions to actual plants, people are finding some really cool ways to incorporate a more natural look in their home.
If you want to use actual plants in your design scheme, HGTV has an awesome slideshow on how to use different houseplants in the best way possible!
5. Pillows, Pillows, and More Pillows!
Guys may hate it but you’ll love it! Decorative pillows and cushions have never really gone out of style, but they’ve really surged in popularity this year! Decorative pillows are fantastic decor pieces because they’re so versatile. Sure, they’re perfect for laying your head down after a long day at work, but here are some other great ways to incorporate your pillows:
- To add some additional color
- To create some variety in your textures
- To fill out a room that seems lacking
Here’s another great thing about decorative pillows – they aren’t expensive at all! You can get some decent quality pillows for anywhere from $5 to $25 each. That saves you money that you can use in other aspects of your home decorating.
